Lera Lynn & Joseph LeMay @ (le) Poisson Rouge - 2016-11-04
I had the most excellent opportunity to watch Ms. Lera Lynn perform at (le) Poisson Rouge earlier this month, with opener Joseph LeMay. Due to a work event earlier in the day, I also had my full camera rig with me as well! It is pretty rare to be able to get an full sized DSLR into music clubs here in the city, but LPR was very accommodating. I also managed to snag front row seats across from another gentleman, who’s wife also could not make the show, despite both of our respective wives having purchased the tickets in the first place, haha.
Lera and her band played an amazing set - this was my second time seeing her as she passed through the city, and I remain completely impressed by how tight the band is, and how full of energy their show is despite most of the (great) songs being very moody and brooding.
Just an incredibly fun band to catch live! While they are currently on break now from this tour, I would keep an eye out for the next time they pick back up on the road.
The talented Brooklynite, Joseph LeMay, opened for Lera - and while you would not have guessed it, it was the second show that the band had ever played together. They played a very fun set of songs mostly revolving about love gone wrong, and in music, who doesn’t like the occasional self-loathing paired with heartache? Of note, the guitarist was somehow managing to play the bass with his feet, while still ripping leads. Kind of blew my mind actually.
At the merch table, both Joseph LeMay and Lera Lynn were also very gracious in taking time to greet their fans who lined up to meet them after the show. Lera also took the time to say hi to my wife - who is a huge fan. I also picked up a bad ass “Amp” tee that I have been getting compliments on around the office :)
